Job Description
The Design Civil Engineering Intern assists with the development and implementation of transit improvement and transit corridor projects. Conducts self in an appropriate manner, working effectively in a diverse work environment. Assists in the preparation of engineering design drawings, maps, and other related documents (ie: cost estimates, permit applications, etc.) as assigned to implement transit projects. Assists in conducting technical studies for the selection and implementation of capital projects.
Assists in developing project cost estimates, reviewing design documents, and monitoring the construction process of various transit facility projects as assigned. Assists project manager in field surveying, site assessment/evaluation, and construction inspection as assigned. The application deadline is 8/13/2010.
Job Requirements
Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working towards a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. PC proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and AutoCAD software as well as Internet and email use. Knowledge of Civil Engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, materials testing (concrete and soils), and general civil engineering design practices. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Ability to learn fast and adapt quickly. Ability to manage several smaller projects at once with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce. OR An equivalent combination of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with required qualifications as determined in the job analysis.
