Job Description
Work as part of the Public Information team performing public information and involvement efforts associated with the implementation of the plan for various corridors. ESSENTIAL: Conducts self in an appropriate manner, working effectively in a diverse work environment. Serves as an active daily team member of the Public Information Program. Assist with researching and drafting public information pieces and new releases. Assists with maintenance of the website. Assists with distribution of results from annual research process. Assists with planning and coordination of public meetings and special events. Assists with coordination of speakers' bureau at neighborhood meetings, public meetings, and other informational meetings. Assists with development of PowerPoint presentations. Assists Public Affairs with general public affairs and communications efforts. Responds to staff, citizen and business requests for information. Assists in development of collateral materials, articles, and other informational materials. Assist in maintenance of stakeholder distribution lists. Coordinates presentations and tours. Prepares materials for award applications as needed. Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads correspondence and various other documents as necessary. Makes arrangement for the Public Information Team meetings, including invitations, locations, refreshments and special equipment as needed. Copies and/or assembles materials for media kits, informational packets, reports, and other documents. Update media lists and reporter files. Assist with stakeholder mailings. Provide staff support for community events and festivals. Assist with planning and set up for media events. Research clips files and media outlets for transit-related articles. Job Requirements
Current student in good standing seeking a BachelorĂ¢ s degree in Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Political Science, or a closely related field. Basic knowledge of communications, writing and editing skills, including proper use of grammar, punctuation, spelling, editing, and proofreading skills in public media relations and intergovernmental relations. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Ability to write concise, factual material. Basic public speaking and presentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills necessary for working with Board of Directors, staff, Team Members, elected officials, public agency representatives, community and business leaders, and the public. Basic knowledge of development process for collateral and promotional materials. Ability to work independently, using good judgment and decision-making skills, with minimal supervision. Good organizational skills with accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Ability to efficiently manage time and workload, including planning, prioritizing, organizing, and follow-through on a variety of tasks, projects, and assignments. Ability to manage stress and high pressure situations. Demonstrated initiative. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy. Effective listening skills including good telephone etiquette. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discern sensitive issues. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse team/workforce. OR An equivalent combination of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with required qualifications as determined in the job analysis.
