Job Number: 5526
Job Description Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) manages the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Fellowship and Graduate Student Internship Program, on behalf of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Synergy Enterprises, Inc. SEI is an 8(a) certified, woman owned company that provides information technology and management consulting services to a steadily growing local, national, and international clientele in the public and private sectors. The Prevention Fellowship Program invites qualified individuals who are seeking professional growth in the field of substance abuse prevention. Fellows receive a yearly stipend of up to $35,000, with a geographic adjustment to a GS- 5 equivalent salary, and will be required to work 32 hours per week. These individuals will be assigned to a mentor from participating State agencies throughout the United States and U.S. Pacific Jurisdictions. The SAMHSA CSAP Prevention Fellowship Program was launched in 2006 in an effort to build a workforce of substance abuse professionals. During the 2 year fellowship program, which combines Web based and in-person trainings, fellows improve their skills and their knowledge of prevention practices. During their Prevention Fellowship Program experience, fellows focus on acquiring the necessary skills for success in the fields of public and behavioral health. The Prevention Fellowship Program prepares fellows for International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) certification as substance abuse prevention specialists. This professional development program allows fellows to work in State agencies while being supported by State agency mentors; receive prevention training and professional development training; learn a set of core competencies in preparation for the Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) exam; develop management and leadership skills; and prepare themselves for potential opportunities within the prevention field. Working closely with mentors and other leading professionals in the prevention field, fellows undertake projects that help them gain the skills and knowledge necessary to develop and implement state-of-the-art prevention practices. Together, the fellow and the mentor develop a Fellowship Accomplishment Plan (FAP) that defines a core set of well-defined assignments and trainings with associated milestones, objectives and outcomes. Hands-on experience is reinforced by intensive online and inĂ¢ person training that focuses on the defined core competencies of the Prevention Fellowship Program. In addition to building competencies in diverse areas of public and behavioral health practice, fellows have the opportunity to develop critical research, writing, evaluation, and presentation skills within a structured training program.
